In order to excel at something we have to make it a part of our daily routine… a habit. You definitely have to be in a certain state of mind to continually make it fun and exciting enough that you jump out of bed regardless!  You must keep yourself inspired.  You must decide what you want and if you want it bad enough, it becomes a challenge worth fighting for.

But how in the world can I do all that?  Below are 10 little things you can do everyday – which add up to big things for you – once they become habits.    Start slowly.  Do one each day or, do them all!  Just  get started!

10 Habits to Excellence

  1. Wake Early:  This gives you time to think about your goals and the time to work on specific things that you want to be better at.  If you wait until the end of the day to do meaningful but not urgent things like exercise, read, ponder how to advance your goals or truly give your best, it probably won’t happen.  If it has to happen, then it should happen first thing in the morning.
  2. Exercise: Doing something positive for your health first thing in the morning can be a real boost to your sense of self-worth. Research shows that just 10-minutes of morning exercise brings about a significant increase in self-esteem in both genders across all age groups.
  3.   4. Read and/ or Listen to Motivational Material: in the morning a whole day of endless possibilities lies ahead. Motivate your self to be your best by reading and listening to inspirational music or talks.
  5. Visualize the Day Ahead: Spend time visualizing what you want to happen in the coming day.  To live it, you must first have imagined it.
  6. todo-picWrite a “To Do” List:  So simple, yet so effective.  Just do it!
  7. Check the News Headlines: It’s important to have an idea of what is happening in our community and the world. Having said this, much of the news is negative so be careful not to spend too much time on it unless there is a particular story of note.
  8. Journal / Diary / Notebook: Carry your music/voice notebook with you everyday.  If you still need to get one, get one now.  This is where you should have your goals written. This is where you should also keep track of your 30-day challenge!
  9. Take Time to Look Good: Whether we like it not, it’s a reality of life that people judge us by our appearance. Take a few minutes each morning to ensure you go out into the world looking the best you can.
  10. Smile.  Carry a smile with you throughout the day. You will find that not only does it make you happier, but it can make other people smile and open the door to conversations with people you normally don’t talk to.
